I understand their perspective \u2014 many of them have only seen HR departments from the outside, and what\u2019s visible are the administrative tasks.<\/p><p data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1343\">But HR is so much more than that.<br data-start=\"1162\" data-end=\"1165\" \/>It\u2019s about improving systems, designing better employee experiences, and thinking differently about people problems. In other words, it\u2019s about <em data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1341\">thinking like an entrepreneur.<\/em><\/p><hr data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1348\" \/><h3 data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1413\"><strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1413\">Entrepreneurship in HR Doesn\u2019t Mean Starting a Business<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1693\">When I use the term \u201centrepreneurial thinking,\u201d I\u2019m not talking about launching a company or owning a startup.<br data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1528\" \/>I mean something simpler and more important for HR professionals: the ability to <strong data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1690\">spot an inefficiency, imagine a better way, and take initiative to improve it<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1757\">Entrepreneurship in HR begins with curiosity.<br data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1743\" \/>It\u2019s asking:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1856\"><p data-start=\"1760\" data-end=\"1856\">\u201cWhy do we do it this way?\u201d<br data-start=\"1787\" data-end=\"1790\" \/>and following it up with,<br data-start=\"1815\" data-end=\"1818\" \/>\u201cWhat if we tried it differently?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"2067\">Every semester, I ask my HR students to review a process \u2014 recruitment, onboarding, or performance management \u2014 and suggest one creative improvement. I\u2019ve seen remarkable ideas come out of these discussions.<\/p><hr data-start=\"2069\" data-end=\"2072\" \/><h3 data-start=\"2074\" data-end=\"2106\"><strong data-start=\"2078\" data-end=\"2106\">Small Ideas, Real Impact<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"2108\" data-end=\"2360\">One student group once suggested turning the first day of employee onboarding into an interactive experience using short videos recorded by existing employees.<br data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2270\" \/>Another group designed a \u201cpeer buddy\u201d system for new hires to reduce early-stage stress.<\/p><p data-start=\"2362\" data-end=\"2529\">They didn\u2019t have data, budgets, or managerial titles.<br data-start=\"2415\" data-end=\"2418\" \/>But what they <em data-start=\"2432\" data-end=\"2437\">did<\/em> have was initiative \u2014 and that\u2019s what I want every HR student to carry into their career.<\/p><p data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2684\">Those exercises remind me that innovation doesn\u2019t start with authority. It starts with curiosity and a willingness to improve something, however small.<\/p><hr data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"2689\" \/><h3 data-start=\"2691\" data-end=\"2734\"><strong data-start=\"2695\" data-end=\"2734\">From the Classroom to the Workplace<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"2736\" data-end=\"2951\">Many of my graduates share updates after starting their first HR roles in Saudi organizations \u2014 from schools and hospitals to industrial firms.<br data-start=\"2879\" data-end=\"2882\" \/>Some tell me about their challenges, others about their small wins.<\/p><p data-start=\"2953\" data-end=\"2992\">One of my former students once wrote,<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"2993\" data-end=\"3102\"><p data-start=\"2995\" data-end=\"3102\">\u201cSir, I automated our attendance tracking using a simple Google Form. It saved my team hours every week.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"3104\" data-end=\"3241\">That one line captures what entrepreneurial HR looks like.<br data-start=\"3162\" data-end=\"3165\" \/>It\u2019s not dramatic. It\u2019s practical, initiative-driven, and deeply valuable.<\/p><hr data-start=\"3243\" data-end=\"3246\" \/><h3 data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3309\"><strong data-start=\"3252\" data-end=\"3309\">Why HR in Saudi Arabia Needs Entrepreneurial Thinkers<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"3311\" data-end=\"3505\">Saudi Vision 2030 has put human capital development at the center of national transformation.<br data-start=\"3404\" data-end=\"3407\" \/>This means HR professionals are no longer just <em data-start=\"3454\" data-end=\"3470\">administrators<\/em> \u2014 they are <em data-start=\"3482\" data-end=\"3502\">partners in change<\/em>.<\/p><p data-start=\"3507\" data-end=\"3548\">Organizations today face new questions:<\/p><ul data-start=\"3549\" data-end=\"3722\"><li data-start=\"3549\" data-end=\"3595\"><p data-start=\"3551\" data-end=\"3595\">How do we attract and retain Saudi talent?<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3596\" data-end=\"3655\"><p data-start=\"3598\" data-end=\"3655\">How do we prepare employees for digital transformation?<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3656\" data-end=\"3722\"><p data-start=\"3658\" data-end=\"3722\">How do we build engagement in a rapidly evolving work culture?<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3724\" data-end=\"3924\">The answers require more than policies \u2014 they require creativity, experimentation, and courage.<br data-start=\"3819\" data-end=\"3822\" \/>That\u2019s why every HR graduate entering the workforce in Saudi Arabia must think like an entrepreneur.<\/p><hr data-start=\"3926\" data-end=\"3929\" \/><h3 data-start=\"3931\" data-end=\"3991\"><strong data-start=\"3935\" data-end=\"3991\">How Students Can Build an Entrepreneurial HR Mindset<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"3993\" data-end=\"4135\">You don\u2019t need a corporate job to start practicing this mindset.<br data-start=\"4057\" data-end=\"4060\" \/>You can begin right in your classroom, internship, or graduation project.<\/p><p data-start=\"4137\" data-end=\"4180\">Here\u2019s what I often suggest to my students:<\/p><ol data-start=\"4182\" data-end=\"4685\"><li data-start=\"4182\" data-end=\"4296\"><p data-start=\"4185\" data-end=\"4296\"><strong data-start=\"4185\" data-end=\"4211\">Challenge assumptions.<\/strong> If something doesn\u2019t make sense, ask \u201cWhy?\u201d respectfully and explore alternatives.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4297\" data-end=\"4383\"><p data-start=\"4300\" data-end=\"4383\"><strong data-start=\"4300\" data-end=\"4316\">Start small.<\/strong> Improve one small process in your student club or group project.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4384\" data-end=\"4457\"><p data-start=\"4387\" data-end=\"4457\"><strong data-start=\"4387\" data-end=\"4403\">Collaborate.<\/strong> Innovation happens through teamwork, not isolation.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4458\" data-end=\"4601\"><p data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4601\"><strong data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4483\">Think about value.<\/strong> When you make a suggestion, explain <em data-start=\"4520\" data-end=\"4539\">how it adds value<\/em> \u2014 saves time, improves communication, or reduces confusion.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4602\" data-end=\"4685\"><p data-start=\"4605\" data-end=\"4685\"><strong data-start=\"4605\" data-end=\"4617\">Reflect.<\/strong> After every project, ask: <em data-start=\"4644\" data-end=\"4683\">What did I improve? What did I learn?<\/em><\/p><\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"4687\" data-end=\"4783\">Entrepreneurial HR is not a job title. It\u2019s a mindset of continuous learning and contribution.<\/p><hr data-start=\"4785\" data-end=\"4788\" \/><h3 data-start=\"4790\" data-end=\"4829\"><strong data-start=\"4794\" data-end=\"4829\">Teaching HR Is Teaching Mindset<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"4831\" data-end=\"5030\">After fifteen years of teaching HRM, I\u2019ve learned that my real job isn\u2019t just explaining models like SHRM or performance management \u2014 it\u2019s shaping how students think about people and organizations.<\/p><p data-start=\"5032\" data-end=\"5162\">When a student begins to see HR not as a rulebook but as a design lab for human potential, that\u2019s when the real learning begins.<\/p><p data-start=\"5164\" data-end=\"5299\">The students who go far in their careers are not the ones who memorize definitions.<br data-start=\"5247\" data-end=\"5250\" \/>They\u2019re the ones who look at a process and ask,<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"5300\" data-end=\"5359\"><p data-start=\"5302\" data-end=\"5359\">\u201cHow can I make this better for the people who use it?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"5361\" data-end=\"5403\">That question is the seed of innovation.<\/p><hr data-start=\"5405\" data-end=\"5408\" \/><h3 data-start=\"5410\" data-end=\"5463\"><strong data-start=\"5414\" data-end=\"5463\">A Reflection for Every Future HR Professional<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"5465\" data-end=\"5711\">If you\u2019re studying HR today or just beginning your career, remember this:<br data-start=\"5538\" data-end=\"5541\" \/>You will always face limitations \u2014 time, budget, or hierarchy. But those limits can also be your best teachers.<br data-start=\"5652\" data-end=\"5655\" \/>Each constraint is an invitation to think differently.<\/p><p data-start=\"5713\" data-end=\"5937\">The next time you notice something inefficient, outdated, or unclear, don\u2019t wait for a policy update.<br data-start=\"5814\" data-end=\"5817\" \/>Sketch an idea. Test it.
